OUR MISSION
USA-Fiji Outreach, a non-profit organization IRS 501(c)(3) EIN - 26-2537715, assists underprivileged students of FIJI Heritage. Regardless of ethnicity, it promotes education and support to future generations and helps to realize their full potential of becoming outstanding citizens of tomorrow.
Student Statistics: According to Fiji Bureau Of Statistics Census of 2007, total students enrolled in Fiji High Schools were 68,094. Total primary school enrollments in 2007 were 133,835. The poverty line in Fiji was $83 (gross income) per week at national level. Fiji Population Census indicated that over half of the young people between the age of 5 and 19 live in rural areas. This is still reflected today in the education system. Close to 60% of students enrolled in primary schools are in rural primary schools. 72% of all primary schools are rural primary schools, and close to 35% of these are in very remote areas. In terms of secondary school education, more than 65% of all secondary school students are enrolled in urban secondary schools, which make up 50% of all secondary schools in Fiji. What these statistics show is whilst that the majority of primary schools and primary school students are in rural areas, the majority of secondary school students are in urban schools, even though 50% of all secondary schools are in rural areas. The Education Commission also discovered that out of the average of 21,000 students who start at class one, or year one, fewer than 12,000 would succeed in going through to year 14, or Form 6. Of the dropouts, the majority of them are in rural areas. How realistic is this?
Why sponsor a student through USA-Fiji Outreach: ONE HUNDRED PERCENT of your monetary contribution will go towards the organizations established Scholarship Fund. The established Scholarship Fund will be distributed to "underprivileged students" through their current educational institution. This is based upon the scholarship criteria By Laws set forth by USA-Fiji Outreach.
